3. Sacred Spaces

…”Take off your sandals, for the place where you are standing is holy ground.” Exodus 3:5

Of the many benefits of traveling, especially to places that don’t look or sound much like the place you’re from, is the reminder of the infinite variety of God’s creation. It’s a good thing to not get too complacent - or smug - about where you and yours are in the scheme of things.

Botswana is by turn foreign and familiar.

Providing much of the familiar are the rites and rituals of Anglicanism. In sacred spaces, whether it’s the Cathedral of the Holy Cross in the capital city, or a small church in a desert outpost, or a makeshift altar during a gathering of women of the church, comes the reminder there is but one Lord, one faith, one baptism, one God and father of all.

Sacred, too, are gatherings under his sky and setting sun to break bread, and share (hot) tea and stories and songs, and to give thanks for God who guides us all in our waking and guards us all in our sleeping.
