UTO Report - Annual Meeting 2022
The United Thank Offering was founded in 1889 by two Episcopal women. UTO’s focus was and still is to foster a practice of being thankful for the blessings God gives us each day. These blessings may be little or big – finding a parking space, morning coffee, a doctor’s good report, etc. Then through our donations of gratitude to UTO, our blessings bless others. “Gratitude begins in our hearts and then dovetails into behavior. It almost always makes you willing to be of service, which is where the joy resides.” – Anne Lamott, Help, Thanks, Wow: The Three Essential Prayers
Our donations from In-Gatherings over these 133 years has enabled UTO to award 5,406 grants for a total of $142,155,879.44. YES! $142,155,879.44. Every cent given in thanksgiving is then given away in grant funding to support innovative mission and ministry throughout The Episcopal Church and the Anglican Communion. Twenty-two grants focusing on “Care of Creation” were awarded in 2022 totaling $1,051,154.14. For a complete list of all UTO grants or to learn about grant applications for this year, visit www.episcopalchurch.org/grants/uto or www.unitedthankoffering.org.
The UTO grant criteria for 2023 is for innovative mission and ministry based on the spirit of Matthew 25:36; to address all aspects of the worldwide incarceration crisis, specifically preventative programs and intervention, prisoner support outreach, prison reform work, or post-prison re-entry.
I am proud to report that several parishes in the Diocese of North Carolina are active supporters of UTO. Our In Gatherings are usually taken up on the Sundays closest to Ascension Day in the Spring, and All Saints Day in the Fall, but they are welcome any time.
Church or personal contributions should be made using the instructions on this page.
