United Thank Offerings

The United Thank Offering, (UTO), a ministry begun in 1889 by a few women in the Church, has evolved into a ministry of the Episcopal Church in the United States which has, through the years, made grants to many projects and activities throughout the states and in the Anglican communion.

Funds for the grants and awards are raised by individuals throughout the church who have committed to practicing gratitude day by day for the little things and the big things, making a small donation each time. Twice a year there are “in gatherings” of these offerings, and once a year grants are made by a central UTO Board.

This year the In Gatherings were significantly down, as were the funds raised in 2021. Because most parish churches did not meet, there was very little activity. In our Diocese, nine churches were able to send in a collection, and they are amazing. Individuals over the diocese also contributed, and their help is greatly appreciated. Many others continued to practice gratitude, without a doubt, and we look to better days to restore our mission. Practicing GRATITUDE blesses the giver and the receiver.

Forty five “Recovering in Love and Gratitude” grants from the 2020 Ingathering were awarded this spring; 19 of which were to the Anglican Communion. No applications were submitted by our Diocese.

Your project must fit the theme: Care of Creation: Turning love into action-through justice advocacy, environmental reparations, and development of formation materials. The deadline for submitting them to the Diocese via uto@ecw-nc.org is late December to allow time for updates and corrections. The deadline for the Diocese is February 4, 2022.

Our In Gatherings are usually taken up on the Sundays closest to Ascension Day in the Spring, and All Saints Day in the Fall, but they are welcome any time.
